Speak Sister Speak

I've often wondered what love would sound like if it had a sound. Throughout my life I often believed that it would sound like a Stevie Wonder love song. Oh but how wrong I was. Tonight while listening to Michelle Obama speak so candidly about her love for the man she fell in love with nineteen years ago, I truly found out what love sounds like.

As I watched this woman, this remarkably regal woman, stand there and speak with a passion and conviction strong enough to move a mountain I was moved to tears. Listening to this beautiful, statuesque SISTER stand there and talk about her daughters, whom she referred to as "the heart of her heart" I was touched. I shuddered hearing her speak those words. At that point I realized that she is just like me, a woman who lives for her children; and it was then that I knew that a change really is about to come.

Her words most certainly did not fall on deaf ears. It did not go unnoticed that the words grace and blessed fell from her lips as she spoke on the compassion of "her husband". I always knew where they stood as it relates to spirituality but she made sure that EVERYONE knew that her and her husband have a strong rooted love in God and that is why they are walking this fight humbly but with a sense of nobility and pride.

This prolific woman who could easily be our sister, cousin, aunt, first lady or friend exudes a warmth that is unparalleled. Even through the television let our military families know that she realizes that every night when they say grace there is an empty spot at the table and she empathizes with them and believes that the change that her husband will bring will be a comfort to them. SPEAK SISTER SPEAK

Although she could not allow all her passion to roll down her cheeks it was there with every word of praise and every reflection of their life. There are no words to define all the emotions and feelings that ran through my body during the course of this speech; but seeing all the different women in the audience moved to tears, like myself, spoke volumes and made me realize that this speech had transcended color and economic means and spoke to the HEARTS of the people. SPEAK SISTER SPEAK

For those of you who watched did you notice that she failed to look at the teleprompter? Why, because this strong woman came from her heart and she didn't need any help to speak about the heart of the man that she loves with every fiber of her being. Being the proud American that she is she reminded us that this week marks the 88th anniversary of women winning the right to vote and the 45th anniversary of Dr King’s, I have a Dream speech. How appropriate. SPEAK SISTER SPEAK

As she finished off with an amazing quote that we should all teach our children, "The only limit to the height of our achievements is the limit of our dreams and a willingness to achieve them." I realized that this truly is what love sounds like and ironically the song that marked the end of her speech was, Isn't She Lovely. A STEVIE WONDER LOVE SONG.

You couldn't have said it better. Tears poured from my eyes, simply because I was so proud to see a Black woman represent the way she did for America, her family, and most of all, for herself. From the stereotypes that you see on television and videos of Black women, I'm so glad that Michelle Obama SHOWED OUT and showed a side of US that many people do not see! There are so many of our stories that need to be told, but unfortunately, sometimes our stories fall on deaf ears. And with that being said, the only disappointment for me last night was that some people just didn't get it. Afterwards, I listened to the media pundits and republicans make comments about Ted Kennedy's appearance, as well as Michelle Obama's. All I can say is we have some work to do. The devil is busy, but with God by their side, the Obama's will take America to a place its never been. I think Sam Cooke said it best...I CHANGE IS GONNA COME! and it definitely will. Thanks for sharing and all the best...
